GRANTS PASS, OR, September 01, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After being displayed for the last few weeks at the Horsepower Auto Museum in Auburn, Indiana, the 1936 Lincoln formerly owned by Howard Hughes will be sold to the highest bidder...again! When? This Labor Day weekend (September 6th 2009) during the Kruse Collector Car Auction in Auburn. This time the car is selling in one of the world's largest collector car auctions. Will it bring more this time? Only time will tell. This remarkable one-of-a-kind car known worldwide as the Aero-Mobile is the star of the 5,000 collector cars consigned for sale in Auburn and it is believed to have record-setting price capability.

The vehicle first surfaced in 2004 during a museum owner's estate sale in a small town in Oregon. It was purchased for only $10,000. It has passed through a few owners' hands since then, each time selling for more and more money. The last time the car sold was June 2009 for over a Million dollars in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The current owner stated, "This is one of the world's most unusual cars and I believe it's a great investment opportunity that will hopefully do well". The car has been completely restored to the time Howard Hughes customized it. Eyewitness accounts indicate this vehicle was thought by Hughes to be an important part of his legacy, so he preserved it with the Spruce Goose in a giant climate-controlled hanger in California.

The car began as Howard Hughes' personal 1936 Lincoln K Model V-12 Limousine. Hughes completely re-designed the car into this very aerodynamic vehicle, by reducing the original weight by thousands of pounds and actually increasing the length of the body, creating a very stable vehicle for driving at high speeds. The car was designed to easily cruise in excess of 100 MPH. Originally Hughes might have started out to compete in a speed or endurance contest; however, some say he was developing his version of the ultimate concept car.

This car is considered by many to be the most significant Howard Hughes Automobile ever found, because it was totally re-created under Hughes' direction and at a time when Hughes was at the top of his most competitive and creative genius stage. Hughes is credited with many other important inventions that have survived the test of time; including retractable aircraft landing gear, the adjustable hospital bed and the modern day push-up bra just to name a few. During this same time Hughes was also very competitive, in fact he set the world's air speed record becoming the world's fastest man by air in a plane built under his direction. Could it be he was planning to attempt to break the world's land speed record as well?
