DERBY, UK, April 16, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Many churches will highlight the Internet on 26 April by holding an 'Internet Evangelism Day'. This international focus day explains how the Web is a God-given tool for outreach, and provides help for Christians to use it effectively. Churches can build a short focus program into their services or other activities. This may be as short as a 2-minute announcement, or can be a longer program using the free downloads from IE Day's site: an editable PowerPoint, video clips, music, drama scripts and handouts.

The website is also an online resource guide with many ideas for web outreach and strategy, including a self-assessment tool to help churches develop their websites to reach outsiders in the community:

One surprising emphasis: "You don't need to be technical to be an online evangelist," says
IE Day coordinator Tony Whittaker. "There are many ways you can share your faith in your spare time, without any technical knowledge at all." Church leaders have welcomed this resource. "I am glad to commend Internet Evangelism Day," says elder statesman John Stott.

New Blog Explores Digital Evangelism

Digital Evangelism Issues (DEI) is the new blog from Internet Evangelism Day (IED) - hence the mirror-image acronym. Classical language scholars and those with a Catholic background will notice a second reference: 'dei' is Latin for 'belonging to God'.

It focuses on news and ideas for any type of digital outreach - web, mobile phone, video clip and social networking and more. "We are missing many opportunities for outreach. Digital evangelism is a God-given tool," says IED coordinator Tony Whittaker.

Free Evaluation Reports on Church Websites

Internet Evangelism Day offers an online self-assessment questionnaire, which enables churches to enhance their websites to reach out into the community. "Your church website is a 'shop window' for your community," says IE Day coordinator Tony Whittaker. Yet very few church websites are designed with outsiders in mind. The free custom evaluation report suggests highlights areas of a site that could be developed.
