CLEARWATER, FL, February 18, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Miles for Hope, a non-profit organization sponsored by AirTran Airways, is dedicated to raising funds to find a cure for brain tumors. "There is not enough awareness surrounding brain tumors, and most people are unaware of the cutting edge clinical trials that are currently available, but are in desperate need of private funding," stated Barb Gibbs, Executive Director of Miles for Hope.

"We wanted a way that people from all over the world could participate in an event. Brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor death in children under twenty, and the second leading cause of cancer death in male adults ages twenty to twenty nine. It is important that the public aware of this. They should also know that they can help make a difference," said Gibbs. Participate in the virtual vigil by logging on at www.milesforhope.org/vigil

Miles for Hope has an event scheduled on April 10, 2009 in Dunedin, Florida where they will attempt to break an existing Guinness World Record for the world's largest candle light vigil. "Our goal is to have one million virtual candles lit by April 10, 2009 which will tie into our Together In Hope vigil in Florida. This will raise awareness of the need for research surrounding brain tumors and the importance that organizations like ours, receive donations to expand clinical trials so that a cure can be found. Only two treatments have been approved by the FDA for brain tumors over the past twenty five years.

We ask that the public participate in this virtual vigil, and at the same time make each individual aware of the severity of this disease. Brain tumor facts and statistics display with the virtual candle. "May kicks off Brain Tumor Awareness month, and this is our way to lead into it, and to provide a easy and fun way for people to support this cause and need to find a cure," said Gibbs.

There is currently no cure for brain tumors, therefore we have created many ways that people can help find a cure with us. "Great strides have been made in treating other types of cancer because they received funding, now it's time to join in by contributing to organizations that specifically fund research and clinical trials. "No donation is too small, and every dollar brings us closer to a cure," said Gibbs.

Miles for Hope has teamed up with Tampa marketing, P.R., and advertising specialists, Maverick Interactive. The firm has developed the virtual candle lighting vigil and strongly supports the cause. Maverick Interactive CEO Mark Marchetta is "proud to be a part of the advancement in research for a cure for brain tumors and brain cancer," he stated.
