Worldwide Who's Who Names Esther M. Hockett Professional of the Year in Library Management

Be consistent. What you do today, do tomorrow, said Esther Hockett's grandfather, enabling her to watch her students succeed on a regular basis

MOUNT JULIET, TN, October 19, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Esther M. Hockett, Media Specialist for Mount Juliet High School Library, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in library management. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

Ester Hockett has dedicated 50 years of service to Wilson County Schools. After graduating from Wilson County High School in 1959, she attended Tennessee State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science, a master's degree in education and certification in elementary education. She then returned home to pursue a career teaching civics, world history and government at her alma mater, while serving as a part-time librarian and guidance counselor until 1969. That year, she moved to Mount Juliet High School Library, where she has since been the school's librarian and media specialist tasked with managing media and teaching college credit classes to students using her knowledge of printing and non-printing services, as well as encyclopedias, dictionaries and almanacs.

Inspired by her former teachers, Dorothy Hodges, Bessie Gibbs, Elnora Bryant-McClure and Atha L. Estbrook Sr. to become a librarian, Ms. Hockett marvels at her success and the opportunities she has had to affect thousands of lives through her teaching. Throughout the last five decades, she has maintained benevolent relationships with her students—one of the reasons for her professional longevity. She also attributes her success to her work ethic, passion for her profession, love for children and the support she receives from her family. She lives by advice found in Proverbs 3:5-6; "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" She also lives by the words of her grandmother, Esther, "Don't forget to praise the bridges that carried you across." These bridges include her parents, Reverend & Mrs. James B (Georgia) Hockett, Sr., her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Addie Hockett and her maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Norman (Esther) Jackson, Sr., and her brother James B. Hockett, Jr.

Ms. Hockett has also taken courses at Peabody College, MTSU and the University of Northern Colorado. She is a member of the Wilson County Education Association, the American Library Association, the Tennessee Library Association and the National Education Association. She is charitably involved with United Way and local hospitals. In her spare time, she serves as a missionary leader at her local church, studies the Bible and enjoys reading and writing.
