Worldwide Who's Who Names Jennifer E. McGann a VIP of the Year for 2011-2012 for Excellence in Medical Billing & Coding

    GALES FERRY, CT, May 21, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jennifer E. McGann, BA, CPC-A, a Medical Records Volunteer for The William W. Backus Hospital, has been named a VIP of the Year by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in medical billing and coding.

Ms. McGann has nurtured an ever-emergent skill set over the course of her career, with an expertise in adaptation coding for clinical level laboratories' diagnosis. She is currently responsible for managing the quality control of scanned medical record related images for documentation requirements, legibility, and proper filing in electronic medical records. She assists with database/spreadsheet updating of selected project and selected employee production and reviews physician orders while referring to registration information to ensure the correct code was used for insurance purposes.

Prior to joining The William W. Backus Hospital, McGann worked in document management as well as serving as a volunteer and extern for the Charter Oak Walk-in Medical Center, PC. She has also served as volunteer and extern for Global Health Consultants, LLC, and for The Schaperow Psychology Center. Other previous positions have included roles as an office clerk and administrative assistant for Daticon, a volunteer with the Waterford Public Library and the Ledyard Public Libraries in Connecticut, as well as a few college-level internships. Ms. McGann has received Volunteer Appreciation awards, and a Clock Award for Eight Years of Loyalty from Daticon. She has also been honored with a Gold Pin for 100 Cumulative Hours and a Silver Bar for 500 Cumulative Volunteer Hours by The William W. Backus Hospital.

Through years of hard work, ongoing education and a constant desire to affect positive change, Ms. McGann has learned how much she enjoys working with people. She is looking forward to a career in coding to help ensure that patients' documentation and all records are accurate. When she sets out do something, she does so with all her effort, determined to accomplish her goals. Inquisitive by nature, she constantly asks questions to obtain the answers she needs so she can do her job effectively. Ms. McGann attributes her success to her dedication and the support she received from her instructors and mentors in her industry. She became involved in her profession ready to make a life-long commitment to community service.

The highlights of Ms. McGann's career were graduating from Ridley-Lowell Business & Technical Institute and passing the CPC exam. She is currently enrolled online with the Keller School of Management via DeVry University, in pursuit of a Certificate in Human Resources. She then hopes to complete a full Masters in HIM / HIT / or HIS. She completed postgraduate coursework in Library and Information Science at Simmons College, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in History from Regis College. She also holds a Certification as an accredited Medical Billing Coding Specialist, which she obtained from the Ridley-Lowell Business & Technical Institute, and she is a Certified Professional Coder. Ms. McGann is a member of the Regis College Alumni in Admissions, the American Health Information Management Association, and the American Association of Professional Coders. Looking ahead, Ms. McGann intends to experience continued personal and professional growth, and aspires to hold a permanent paid position in the healthcare industry where her medical billing and coding training, her library support experience and her office support experience will help to create a more efficient work space by reducing the number of times that inaccurate or incomplete data is recorded.
