Worldwide Who's Who Names Susan Schnuerer, MSN, APRN, BC Professional of the Year in Psychiatric Nursing

    COLLIERVILLE, TN, May 29, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan Schnuerer, MSN, APRN, BC, a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Mental Wellness, PLLC, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in psychiatric nursing. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

With 36 years of experience in in the health care field, Ms. Schnuerer is noted for her specialty in psychiatric patient care. She has been in her present position for the past nine years and is tasked with managing a full spectrum of psychiatric care. On a daily basis she is responsible for assessing, diagnosing and managing the prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and mental health problems for adults, educating patients on mental health issues, and working with the families of patients to assist them in caring for their family members. In addition, she utilizes her skills in medication and drug interaction when prescribing necessary drug treatments. She provides psychotherapy for relationship issues, depression and anxiety and coping skills in everyday life. Moreover, she works with doctors and other psychiatric health professionals through referrals and coordination of care.

Prior to transitioning into her present position Ms. Schnuerer functioned as a director of nursing and taught at the university level as an assistant professor. She has also worked as a clinical specialist in medical units and psychiatric units. Ms. Schnuerer began her career after acquiring a Master of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University in 1973. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor of Science and graduated as a RN from the University at Buffalo in 1970. Never one to be ill-equipped, she went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Kent State University in 1987 and most recently earned a Post-Master's Certificate from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2002. In addition, Ms. Schnuerer networks with other advanced practice nurses through her memberships in the Greater Memphis Area Advanced Practice Nurses group and American Psychiatric Nurses Association. She networks with other psychiatric providers through educational conferences at the Neuroscience Education Institute, the U.S. Psychiatric and Mental Health Congress and Harvard Medical School.

Ms. Schnuerer attributes all her professional success to being a lifelong learner and to having excellent mentors. She became involved in her profession through an enduring interest in psychology.
