Chazy, NY, November 15, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Mortimore Dossin, retired Writing Specialist at SUNY Plattsburgh, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in writing instruction at all levels, ranging from young home-schooled children to those writing Ph.D. dissertations.

Mary Dossin has been extensively published in academic and religious journals, and published a book entitled 'Christian Voices: Leading Women's Writing Groups in Churches.' The book tells about Ms. Dossin's experience in the field, and acts as a 'how-to' for women to help others in telling their stories and making sense of their lives. Ms. Dossin has recently written new exercises for the second edition of the book. Prior to her retirement, Ms. Dossin coached and supervised peer writing tutors, trained women to lead groups, and provided professional writing services. She attributes her success to her hard work, education, faith, the support she receives from her husband, and her desire to educate women. She became involved in her profession through her training in remedial writing, and experience in mentoring tutors at workshops and conferences.

Mary Dossin completed postgraduate training in teaching remedial writing at New York University. She earned a Master's Degree in English Literature from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, with Thesis Honors, and a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature, Valparaiso University, IN, with Honors. She also completed coursework in faith and fiction at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, a comprehensive correspondence course for writers through the Christian Writers Guild, and a New York State Summer Writers Institute workshop with Phillip Lopate in intermediate and advanced nonfiction prose at Skidmore College.

A member of New York College Learning Skills Association, the SUNY Council on Writing, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the American Association of University Women, Mary Dossin has spoken at numerous national writing conferences. She has two adult sons and two grandchildren. She resides with her husband, Ernie, on the shore of Lake Champlain. Looking ahead, she hopes to promote the goals of her book and reach young women to spread the importance of education.
