WSO2 to Provide OSCON 2010 Attendees with Insights into Using Open Source to Prevent Cloud Computing Lock-in

Strategies for avoiding cloud lock-in to be highlighted at WSO2 conference session on Open Source PaaS and in prevention checklist available to OSCON attendees

    MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, July 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- WSO2 (http://wso2.com?oss071910) today announced that the company will provide attendees of OSCON 2010 with strategies for identifying potential cloud computing lock-in risks--and taking advantage of open source solutions to avoid them. OSCON 2010 (http://www.oscon.com/oscon2010) runs July 19-23, 2010 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR.

Open Source PaaS Conference Session
Sameera Jayasoma (http://www.oscon.com/oscon2010/public/schedule/detail/15678), technical lead for the WSO2 Stratos middleware platform-as-a-service (PaaS), will discuss the portability and integration challenges facing many PaaS offerings today, which can cause an IT project to become locked into a platform. He will then examine open source PaaS options and how they can provide the flexibility to work with different platforms as an IT project's requirements evolve. Attendees also will gain insights into how implementing "cloud-native" applications, rather than simply deploying virtual machine images, can provide enterprises with more adaptive and agile cloud-based solutions.
* Topic: Open Source PaaS
* When: Thursday, July 22, at 4:30 p.m.
* Where: Oregon Convention Center, Room E141

Cloud Lock-in Prevention Checklist
OSCON attendees who visit the WSO2 booth can get a new guide, "Cloud Implementation Checklist: Avoiding Cloud Lock-in." The guide looks at five common areas where lock-in occurs and provides key questions IT professionals should ask when evaluating cloud computing solutions. Areas covered include vendors, service providers, data, programming model, and infrastructure layers.

Throughout OSCON, WSO2 also will demonstrate how to build enterprise cloud applications that are free from cloud lock-in using WSO2 Stratos. Launched in June 2010, WSO2 Stratos is the first 100% open source cloud platform that provides all the middleware services required to create, manage and run enterprise cloud applications.

About WSO2 Stratos Cloud Platform
WSO2 Stratos builds on and extends the award-winning WSO2 Carbon open source middleware platform to offer organizations a fully hosted application platform-as-a-service (PaaS). WSO2 Stratos manages and deploys key services based on WSO2's production-quality runtime engines. Today, these include an enterprise service bus (ESB), portals, application server, identity management, governance and registry. Because WSO2 Stratos is based on WSO2 Carbon, applications can be migrated on premise, to a private cloud or to the public cloud. This provides unprecedented deployment flexibility, and for the first time, lets enterprises smoothly and safely migrate to the cloud--without the complexity or fear of vendor lock-in.

WSO2 Stratos, through its integration layer, installs onto any existing cloud infrastructure such as Eucalyptus, Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2), and VMware ESX, to name a few. Enterprises are never locked into a specific infrastructure provider or platform. For more information, visit http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos?oss071910.
