RICHMOND, VA, February 04, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The 10th Anniversary Windstorm Insurance Network Conference was kicked off with a golf tournament on Sunday, January 25th at the Shingle Creek golf club, and finished with a Casino night on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Insurance Companies, Independent & Public Adjusters, Attorneys, Housing Companies, Disaster Recovery and Restoration Construction companies from all over were in attendance. Big names in the business like All State, Belfor Property Restoration, FEMA, and Merlin Law Group added great value to the event. First time exhibitor, Wynne Residential Corporate Housing made great connections with many contacts that said "Where have you been all my life?" or "I could have used you this year!" Housing is such a complication when you are first responders to an area that has experienced complete devastation & destruction. Wynne Residential can provide housing for adjusters, restoration crews and the families displaced by these crazy natural disasters. This short-term furnished housing provides clients with all the comforts of home. Furnished housing provided by Wynne Residential includes all furnishings and housewares. Also standard is cable, local phone service, and high-speed internet, which gives clients the feeling of home.
With over 1,400 in attendance, this industry of dealing with natural disasters from every angle is recession proof. These people don't usually know what 40 hour work weeks look like. Many working for a year or longer on one storm and then off until the next "Big One". So many attendants represented the Southeastern United States where a majority of Windstorms occur, but there were strong holds from the Mid West and West Coast that support from miles away. Many of the insurance adjusters travel from their homes to remote locations that sometimes do not have electricity and running water. Their work life can really take over their personal life and causes them to travel a great amount.
SPEAKERS
During the conference some great speakers were in attendance. Bill Read, the director of the National Hurricane Center started off the conference at the WIND 10th anniversary recognition reception. He covered the impact these storms have locally and internationally. Also speaking was CNN reporter John Zarrella. He spoke about his 30 years of storm reporting and how the media covers these storms. During the WIND membership meeting, former FEMA director James Lee Witt spoke about what it takes to be prepared for the next big storm. Finally, a motivational speaker Dr. Dale Henry covered some key success tips for building leadership.
WORKSHOPS & MORE WORKSHOPS
The long hours of continuing education for the adjusters, insurers, and umpires as well as changes in the laws and Coverage & Codes, were relaxed by nightly receptions and wandering through the exhibition halls. Some of the offered classes were Adjuster Code of Ethics, Adjuster Safety, Florida Property Law Update, and Water Damage Restoration.
As they finished classes, attendees were welcomed by smiles from the Wynne Girls with comforting conversation and appreciate for their continued work efforts. The expo was open for three days which gave everyone plenty of time to see what the exhibitors had to offer. One booth even offered free shoe shines! As the expo went on, Rosen Centre staff walked the rows of booths with appetizers and beverages for the attendees and exhibitors. Throughout all 4 days they offered beverages and food for breakfast, as well as a lovely lunch for everyone.
Many companies gave away prizes and other fun goodies. Wynne Residential gave away a Tom Tom GPS to one lucky person, while other companies gave away gift cards. The Windstorm Conference really gives many different vendors the opportunity to network and find valuable information from all aspects of the insurance world. Many disaster restoration companies were in attendance along with law firms, corporate housing companies, and some companies offering state of the art technology to assist adjusters.
Thanks to many of the Windstorms sponsors, a great deal of information and networking was shared. The collaboration of great companies that can all work together during these storms revived everyone with energy for the upcoming 2009 Storm Season. With the classes and networking offered at this conference, many more will be prepared for the next big storm.
