Dr. Alan Smolen discusses the disadvantages of sleep apnea along with treatment advice.

YARDLEY, PA, March 22, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- March 2-9th was National Sleep Awareness Week. In recognition of that week, Dr. Smolen wants patients to be aware of sleep apnea and its negative impact on their overall health.

"Most patients don't know they are dealing with sleep apnea. . One's bedtime partner may make you aware of irregular sleeping patterns. The symptoms may include snoring, stopped breathing during sleep and daytime tiredness. If a patient is newly diagnosed with sleep apnea, it's time to be aware of treatment options," explains Dr. Smolen.

With a lack of sleep, patients may notice the above symptoms. But sleep apnea and sleep deprivation can cause more serious health concerns, such as heart attack, diabetes and stroke. If you recently became aware of your sleep apnea, it's time to find relief and start getting a good night's sleep.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Treatment in Yardley

Dentistry uses oral appliances for multiple reasons. Some people need them while playing contact sports. Others have custom bite-guards created to protect their teeth from night-time grinding. An oral appliance was developed to keep the airway open, relieving a sleep apnea patient of interrupted breathing patterns. At Yardley Dental Arts, Dr. Smolen is able to supply custom-made devices to patients who need treatment.
