YongHwan Kim Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Neuroscience

Dr. Kim has been an educator since establishing his career in 2006. A member of the department of biological sciences at Delaware State University, he serves in dual roles as associate professor and graduate program director. It is his goal and objective to help his students succeed in the advanced study and diverse careers that require a bioscience expertise. Considered an expert in neuroscience and other areas of biological science, Dr. Kim believes that he can provide a strong foundation in both traditional and modern areas of biology for students preparing for careers in the science field. For his excellence over the last decade, which includes the development of patents for lithium as a potential therapeutic element for Parkinson's disease, Dr. Kim was the recipient of the Junior Faculty Research Award from Delaware State University.

To prepare for a career in the field of biological sciences, Dr. Kim achieved a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA. He remains at the top of his field through his membership with AurimMed Pharma, an applied-science, development-stage pharmaceutical company developing innovative drug products. Since 2013, Dr. Kim has been a member of the organization's associate science board. He has also contributed greatly to his professional community through his research and publications. Most recently, Dr. Kim published an article about how the combination of lithium and L-Dopa/Carbidopa reduces MPTP-induced abnormal involuntary movements via calpain-1 inhibition. In addition, he published his research on lithium and how it protects against oxidative stress-mediated cell death in synuclein oversexpressing invitro and invivo models of Parkinson's disease. Currently, Dr. Kim teaches at the higher education level while pursuing further neurological research.
