Yongjung Choi, PhD, Selected for the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Choi is a Korean process engineer and currently an assistant general manager with the radio frequency identification (RFID) systems manufacturer/IT solution provider HanmiIT. He conducts research into service quality, green logistics, logistics standardization, and RFID-based pharmaceutical logistics. Dr. Choi holds a number of patents and industry standards for pharmaceutical applications, including management system for medicine and product data.

Also, from 2007 to 2014, Dr. Choi conducted national research projects supported by Ministry of Science and Technology (MSIT) and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in Korea.

Born in Busan, Republic of Korea, to Jongok Choi and Geumja Whang, Dr. Choi served with the Republic of Korea Army from 1994 to 1996 and attended Kyonggi University to study Mechanical Engineering, earning a BS degree in 1999. He taught at Kimpo College, Suwon Science College, Chodang University, Jeonju University, Osan College, and Kyungwon College while earning a PhD in Industrial Engineering. From 2003 to 2015, Dr. Choi taught at his alma mater, Kyonggi University.

Upon receiving a doctorate, Dr. Choi worked with the Korea Railroad Research Institute and the National Logistics Standardization Research Corps for one year as a senior researcher. In 2010, he joined HanmiIT and began to produce a number of papers on the application of RFID to pharmaceuticals, including the supply, recycling, and the sophistication of information tracking the technology provides. The technology allows information to be embedded in objects like pill jars or packaging, which can be read to provide product information, client data and security protocols. Dr. Choi has been published in the Communications in Computer and Information Science as well as the International Journal of Logistics and SCM Systems, among a number of global publications.

Dr. Choi supports the Korean Society for Quality Management, the Korean Society of Business Venturing, the Korea Productivity Association, and the Korea Society of Computer and Information, which presented him with 2012 and 2014 Best Paper Award, He is the recipient of a 2005 Best Paper Award from the Society of Korea Industrial and Systems Engineering and a 2012 Post Paper Award from the Korean Statistical Society. Dr. Choi is the father of Ahin Choi with wife, Eunhyung Kim. He has a brother, Yongseok Choi.
