PERTHSHIRE, SCOTLAND, July 10, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- In 2008 it was a wedding that made the news at the Strathfillan Wigwam Holidays site but 2009 saw things becoming a whole lot hotter for the loyal wigwam guests. The weekend of the 19th and 20th of September saw Strathfillan Wigwam Village hosting the "Awakening Senses Fayre" with one of the main highlights of the event being an evening fire walk where those who were willing, plunged barefoot over a bed of glowing hot embers to reach the other end of short but very hot path.
Walking on fire has been around for many thousands of years with some records dating as far back as around 1200 B.C. It has a strong history in many cultures around the world where it has often been used as a means of initiation, proving of a faith or in healing ceremonies to mention but a few. Ona MacFarlane from Oban, who organised the event at Strathfillan Wigwam Village adds that "Firewalking is a metaphor for all those moments in life when we have a choice: will you follow your heart and spirit into new - and possibly dangerous territory".
Strathfillans very own Magda Matelska certainly had the courage to rise to the challenge and made the whole experience look easy as she strode down the smouldering ember path. One by one everyone took their turn to walk down the path of fire and for most who took part the experience was a very uplifting and spiritually enriching one.
However, if fire walking did seem all too daunting then there was a host of other "spiritual and holistic therapies" on offer at the Strathfillan Wigwam site including Indian Head Massage, Tarot Readings, Reflexology and Reiki. Also throughout the weekend were market area drumming workshops and with the rhythmic drum beats adding to the already vibrant atmosphere surrounding the wigwam village, the weekend was truly a memorable and uplifting one for all who attended.
And where better a place to lodge for the night during the "Awakening Senses Fayre" than Strathfillan Wigwam Village which encompasses a range of unique all timber camping cabins from large and small wigwams for small groups, to lodges for larger groups and even wigwam yurts. Each camping cabin, large or small, provides heating and electricity and is also very well insulated for extra warmth in the forthcoming autumn chill. Such a unique accommodation was in perfect keeping with the unique event being held there.
The drums beat to the rhythm of the night, the stars shone in the autumn sky, the sheep stayed firmly on the mountains, but all agreed that the Strathfillan Wigwam site made the ideal location for this alternative and inspiring event. After a wee nip of truly Scottish spirit the crowds withdrew to their wigwam camping cabins and with names like Firewater Lodge, Medicine Man, Bald Eagle, Big Chief, Wee Brave and Rain Maker, all the wandering women (and men) certainly had a weekend to remember.
