"Timing is everything when it comes to orthodontic treatment." says Beavercreek, OH orthodontist Dr. Daniel German. "The sooner you seek proper corrective treatment the sooner you'll be able to flash a winning smile!"

BEAVERCREEK, OH, March 20, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Your smile is a small feature that makes a big statement. At German Orthodontics, we want to help make sure that your smile is making the right statement about you! At the offices of Dr. Daniel German you receive orthodontic treatment with a personal touch. Whether it's something as simple as Elastics or a Palatal Expender or something a bit more complex like the latest Invisalign or Damon technology, German Orthodontics are committed to creating a "perfect-smile roadmap" for each of its patients.

At German Orthodontics, our practice utilizes the most advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques available today. This includes the latest in 3-D imaging to diagnose and precisely plan the exact movement of the teeth without the guesswork of traditional or digital X-rays.

Benefits of Two-Phase Treatment

German Orthodontics uses "two-phase orthodontic treatment." It's a very specialized process that incorporates not only straightening the teeth but which also takes into consideration the physical and facial changes that occur as a result of using braces. This two-phase treatment is the "roadmap" we mentioned earlier: an opportunity to monitor and aim for healthy, functional and esthetically pleasing teeth and a smile that will follow you for your entire life.

Children in particular can benefit enormously from an early phase of orthodontic treatment utilizing appliances that direct the growth-relationship of the upper and lower jaws. The goal is to establish adequate room for expansion of all permanent teeth. This early correction may prevent later removal of permanent teeth to correct overcrowding and/or surgical procedures to align the upper and lower jaws. Leaving such a condition untreated could result in a jaw discrepancy too severe to achieve an ideal result with braces.

Phase One

The goal of first phase treatment is to recognize and then develop the proper jaw size in order to accommodate all the permanent teeth and to relate the upper and lower jaws to each other. The earlier orthodontic treatment begins the better. But whether it's a child or an adult, jaw problems can continue to evolve if not recognized and prevented. Thus, making Phase One so important.

Keep in mind, that at the end of the first phase of treatment, teeth are not in their final positions. This will be determined and accomplished in the second phase of treatment. There are times when selective removal of certain primary (baby) teeth may be in the best interest of the patient in terms of enhancing teeth-expansion. Therefore, periodic appointments for observation may be necessary during the first six months of treatment.

Phase Two

The goal of the second phase is to make sure each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly.

The second phase is initiated when all permanent teeth have erupted, and usually requires braces on all the teeth for an average of 24 months. Retainers are worn after this phase to ensure you retain your beautiful smile.
