Zane Ma Rhea, Ph.D., Honored for Excellence in Academia

    FRANKSTON, AUSTRALIA, August 04, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Zane Ma Rhea has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A member of the faculty of Monash University since 2001, Dr. Ma Rhea serves as an associate professor and deputy head of curriculum and pedagogy for the school. She teaches a number of courses, including Advanced Pedagogy, Indigenous Perspectives of Teaching and Learning, and Indigenous Perspectives of Professional Practice. Dr. Ma Rhea has several books in publication as well. She has authored three innovative books: "Wisdom, Knowledge, and the Postmodern University in Thailand" (2016), "Frontiers of Taste" (2016), and "Leading and Managing Indigenous Education in the Postcolonial World," (2014). She also co-edited and was a contributing author to "Local Knowledge and Wisdom in Higher Education," which was published in 2000. Moreover, Dr. Ma Rhea has contributed articles and chapters to numerous professional journals and edited collections.

Prior to joining Monash University, Dr. Ma Rhea was recipient of the prestigious Smuts Visiting Fellow in Commonwealth Studies at Cambridge University, UK. Her many professional affiliations include the Australian Association for Research in Education, the Australian College of Educators, the Australian Sociological Association, and the Australian Council for Educational Leaders. She is also Editor of "International Education Journal: Comparative Perspectives".

Dr. Ma Rhea began her career as a social worker. She was a residential care worker for the Deaf Society of NSW and graduated from the University of Sydney in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in social studies. She then became a residential social worker for the Royal National Institute for the Deaf, Bath, UK. In 1991, she earned a diploma of Aboriginal education from Flinders University, followed by a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from the same university in 1992. She was recipient of an Australian Research in Asia Award and undertook her Ph.D. in Thailand. She received her Ph.D. in 1997. Dr. Ma Rhea also gained experience as an education and welfare officer and Aboriginal liaison officer at Adelaide University.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Ma Rhea has been active in civic organizations over the years. Her hobbies include languages, music and triathlons. Dr. Ma Rhea's varied accomplishments were considered when she was selected to be featured in the 16th, 19th, 31st, 32nd and 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
