Richard Parmley Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Pediatrics and Hematology-Oncology

    PENSACOLA, FL, December 06, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Parmley has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An award-winning physician regarded for his work in both clinical and academic settings, Dr. Parmley possesses 44 years of professional experience with an expertise in pediatrics, hematology, oncology, and hematopathology. He has spent the last ten years as a pediatric hematologist oncologist at Nemours Children's Clinic in Pensacola. Dr. Parmley also taught as a clinical professor for Florida State University, and most recently for the University of Florida while at Nemours.

Regarded for his scientific expertise, professionalism, and compassionate care, Dr. Parmley came to prominence as an academic leader. He held previous roles including assistant and associate professor of pediatrics and pathology, as well as director of the Electron Microscopy Unit for the Institute of Dental Research while at the University of Alabama, Birmingham from 1978 to 1983. He was an associate and professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 1983 to 1994, then a clinical professor of pediatrics for the University of North Carolina while serving with the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC from 1994 to 2001. From 2001 to 2007, he was a clinical professor at the Medical University of South Carolina while at the Greenville Children's Hospital and Spartanburg Regional Hospital, both in South Carolina. Dr. Parmley has published over 100 original research articles in peer-reviewed journals relating to the ultrastructure of blood cells, iron metabolism, clinical hematology, oncology, neutrophil disorders, and pediatric AIDS. He has also written numerous contributions to medical textbooks.

Dr. Parmley entered the medical field because of his interest and desire to help others in need. After receiving a BA in chemistry from the University of Virginia, he pursued his medical education at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Parmley completed a MD in three years, followed by an internship and residency in pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. While focusing on blood disorders and children's health, he achieved a spot in the fellowship program at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which emphasized his training in pediatrics, hematology, and oncology. Completion of the fellowship included training in pediatrics, hematology, oncology, and hematopathology at the University of Alabama Medical School at Birmingham.

Dr. Parmley's noteworthy roles as a medical doctor included positions on the medical staff at the Children's Hospital in Birmingham. He later accepted a position at Santa Rosa Children's Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where he directed the pediatric hematology oncology program, the South Texas Regional Hemophilia Center, the Children's Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and the Santa Rosa Pediatric AIDS Clinic. He subsequently took a position as division chief of pediatric hematology and oncology at Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Parmley held additional medical staff positions at Greenville Children's Hospital and Spartanburg Regional Hospital, both in South Carolina and preceding his conjuncture with Nemours Children's Clinic and Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Dr. Parmley is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics, hematology, and oncology, and by the American Board of Pathology in hematology. Dr. Parmley has remained a figure in his professional community through memberships with prominent industry organizations, and is currently affiliated with the American Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Children's Oncology Group. In addition, he has been awarded memberships in the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical fraternity, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the American Society of Pediatrics.

In recognition of more than four decades of excellence, Dr. Parmley was featured on numerous occasions in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World. As he looks to the future, Dr. Parmley plans to continue his work as a medical doctor and educator, while taking on new opportunities in the medical field as they arise.
