Overcoming such obstacles as foster care, abuse and educational difficulty, he was inspired by his grandmother to pursue his current profession. An entertainer as well as a motivational speaker and author, Mr. Dowridge considers his portrayal of Frederick Douglass in his one-man show to be his most noteworthy achievement, using the show to focus on both historical events and a call for social progress. Impressively, he has been the recipient of numerous awards celebrating this portrayal. Mr. Dowridge has also been recognized by presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama and was the recipient of a Victory Award.
Attributing his career success to his professional focus and the influence of formative mentors, Mr. Dowridge has established himself as a skilled writer, influencing others with titles such as "The Power of Being A W-I-N-N-E-R" and "Motivational Moments." A volunteer speaker at schools, churches and businesses, he is notable for generously giving students gift cards for educational support when he visits individual institutions. Mr. Dowridge has also established his ability through his traveling Black history museum.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Dowridge aspires to publish at least two new books. He likewise plans to continue portraying Frederick Douglass, hopeful that he will be chosen for a film portrayal.
