WASHINGTON, D.C., October 05, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rev. Dr. Andrea L. Walker has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Devoting her career to the work of ministry, Rev. Dr. Walker has garnered more than 20 years of continued success in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Since 2020, she has served Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, preaching the gospel, helping parishioners recognize race- and cultural-related boundaries, visiting the sick, and overseeing the church staff.
She begun her career as a pastor in 2000 at Saint John's Lutheran Church in the Bronx, New York. From 2003-2012 Pastor Walker served a congregation by the same name in Summit, New Jersey. Rev. Dr. Walker subsequently became the ELCA's global mission area director for Madagascar, West and Central African. She held this call from 2012-2020. She concluded her time traveling and working abroad just before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to her ordination Andrea worked in other capacities in the church and as an electrologist at a beauty salon in Atlanta, GA.
During her career, Rev. Dr. Walker has been engaged in youth ministry. She has been able to maintain relationships with many young people she has encountered. She is proud that some who are now adults still reach out to her for conversation and support.
Rev. Dr. Walker contributed to the book Called to Allyship: Preparing Your Congregation for Leaders of Color published this year by Mouth House an arm of Augsburg Fortress. This book is a must-read for church councils, social justice teams, and others interested in welcoming and celebrating Black and other leaders of color. The book provides wisdom, stories and support. Rev. Dr. Walker aspires to pen her own book, some day.
Andrea attended college later in life while raising her son as a single mother in her late 20s. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Georgia State University in 1995, followed by a Master of Divinity in theology in 1999 and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching in 2007 from the Lutheran School of Technology in Chicago.
Recognized by her alma mater, the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, she was honored as a Distinguished Alumni with the "Called to Lead" award. Her strong desire to help make the world a better place has significantly impacted her success. Andrea also notes her ability to foster community around the framework of LOVE. Rev. Dr. Walker has enjoyed a successful career as an African-American Lutheran woman preaching and leading in a primarily white denomination.
