Besides her primary career objectives, Ms. Concepcion has been an active member on the board of directors for Minorities in Aquaculture since 2022. She has also chaired the strategic advisory council for the UN Global Compact's Global Seaweed Coalition since 2023. Ms. Concepcion was previously active on numerous technical review panels and other committees. She also authored several scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals based on her research.
Ms. Concepcion graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in marine biology. She subsequently earned a Master of Science in fisheries, animal, and veterinary sciences from the University of Rhode Island in 2005. Ms. Concepcion also garnered several professional credentials, including in Preventive Controls for Human Food, through the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance in 2018.
Active in her field, Ms. Concepcion is affiliated with several professional organizations, including The World Aquaculture Society, the U.S. Aquaculture Society, the East Coast Shellfish Growers Association, and the National Shellfisheries Association.
In light of her accomplishments, Ms. Concepcion has received several recognitions, including a David and Nancy Bull Extension Innovation Award from UConn in 2014, a Northeast Regional Sea Grant Consortium Regional Award from the Northeast Regional National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Sea Grant Consortium in 2015, a Sea Grant Association Research to Applications Award from the NOAA Sea Grant Association in 2016, a Ten Years of Service Award from UConn in 2022, and a 2022 Industry Impact Award from the World Aquaculture Society.
