Beginning with school-based therapy, Dr. Plummer's journey into the mental health sector soon evolved into the formalization of her business due to the rapidly increasing demand for such services—a growth she also credits to her experiences and skills honed in the United States Army. Since 2013, she has served as chief executive officer at Onyx Therapy Group, a role in which she oversees a wide range of duties from managing the business operations to engaging directly with clients and supervising counselors. Her leadership extends beyond the Onyx Therapy Group, as she is also the owner and clinical director of EMC2 Educational Consulting LLC, a position she stepped into the same year she established her enterprise.
Additionally, Dr. Plummer's academic contributions as a professor and lecturer at Johns Hopkins University School of Education from 2019 to 2023 further highlight her dedication to educating future generations in her field. Prior to Dr. her aforementioned positions, she served as the lead counselor at DC Bilingual Public Charter School, then a part of CentroNia, from 2006 to 2013 and balanced her early career with responsibilities in property management at Howard University from 2002 to 2006 while serving as a first lieutenant officer in the U.S. Army until 2010. Throughout her career, her professional achievements became numerous and varied and include being featured in The Washingtonian and presenting at TED Talks, thereby bringing significant attention to the mental health field.
Most recently, Dr. Plummer earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Gathering Spot in 2023. As a result of her positions, deep involvement in her field, and academic excellence, she holds membership with various organizations, including the Black Women Business Owners of America, the National Contract Management Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Maryland Counseling Association, and others that reflect her active engagement with both professional communities and civic causes. In all she has pursued and accomplished, Dr. Plummer attributes her success to her spirituality, internal dedication, discipline, discernment, and the support of mentors and allies throughout her career. Moreover, she credits the support of a loving family, which includes her spouse, Megan, and their two children.
Looking ahead, Dr. Plummer is committed to expanding her impact within the federal government contracting space to address gaps in mental health services. Furthermore, she is simultaneously focused on achieving personal goals, which include publishing three books within the next few years and maintaining influence amongst young people through school-based programs. Above all, Dr. Plummer prioritizes staying physically and mentally healthy while watching her children grow into the young adults they aspire to be.
