A retired energy engineer, Dr. Marr devoted nearly 30 years to the Argonne National Laboratory until his retirement from the industry in 1996. A science and engineering research laboratory operated by the University of Chicago Argonne LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy in Lemont, IL, the laboratory first took him on board in 1969. He formerly spent four years as a senior engineering analyst for Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee, WI, between 1963 and 1967 and two years as an assistant engineer for the Taiwan Sugar Corporation between 1959 and 1961.
Outside of his work in the sciences, Dr. Marr has maintained an extensive career in both poetry and the arts. He has authored 19 books of poetry in Chinese to date, recently including "The Sunshine Scarf: Anthology of Fei Ma's Poetry," volume four in 2012, "The World of Grasshoppers: Anthology of Fei Ma's Poetry," volume three in 2012, and "Dream Design: Anthology of Fei Ma's Poetry," volume two in 2011. His books of poetry have all notably been published under the pseudonym Fei Ma. Dr. Marr also authored two books of poetry in English, "Between Heaven and Earth" through Publish America in 2010 and "Autumn Window" through Arbor Hill Press in 1995, with its second edition in 1996. His portfolio also includes several multi-language poetry anthologies, prose collections and edited anthologies.
The recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for his work in poetry, Dr. Marr recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Committee of Literature and Arts in Italy in 2018, Poetry Contest Award sponsored by the 30th World Congresses of Poets in Taipei in 2010, and First Translational Award from Poetry Tides Magazine in China in 2009. He has also been cited in several editions of Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the 21st Century, The International Who's Who of Authors and Writers, the International Who's Who in Poetry, and the International Who's Who in Poetry and Poets' Encyclopedia.
Dr. Marr is a longstanding member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is also a member and former president of the Illinois State Poetry Society, member and longtime board of directors member of the Chinese Artists Association of North America since 1989, and member of the Academy of American Poets.
Born in China, Dr. Marr received a bachelor's degree equivalent at Taipei Institute of Technology in Taiwan in 1957. Relocating to the United States, he then completed a Master of Science at Marquette University in 1963 and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin in 1969. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of California.
