Justin Fryer received the Southwest North Dakota Superintendent of the Year Award.
LISBON, ND, November 24, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Justin Fryer has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Backed by years of expertise in education, Mr. Fryer currently excels as the superintendent of Lisbon School District 19. In this position, he improves academic outcomes by increasing learning opportunities in all grade levels, implements a K-12 research-based writing curriculum for all grade levels and refines schoolwide culture by carrying out various student and staff team-building activities to advance achievement outcomes on their North Dakota State Assessment Test. Previously, Mr. Fryer worked as the superintendent of the Solen School District in Sioux County, North Dakota.
An expert in his field, Mr. Fryer earned a master's degree in education administration. In order to remain aware of changes in the industry, he is affiliated with the American Association of School Administrators, the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders, North Dakota Small Organized Schools and the State Superintendent's Advisory Cabinet. In conjunction with his primary responsibilities, Mr. Fryer is a member of the North Dakota Legislative Focus Group, with which he has remained for many years. The group focuses primarily on ensuring educational equity throughout North Dakota for all students.
In light of his professional excellence, Mr. Fryer received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, the Southwest North Dakota Superintendent of the Year Award and the North Dakota State Superintendent of the Year Award in 2020. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of his work for the Solen School District on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The competitive grant that he wrote to impact a discretionary grant helped them obtain $5.5 million, which they combined with their building fund and utilized to build a brand new school that replaced an 80-year-old facility. Mr. Fryer was gratified to see the project brought to fruition, right before he left to serve another district.
Another standout moment in Mr. Fryer's career was increasing the graduation rate of students from 10 percent to 70 percent by implementing a trimester that provided children with opportunities to improve their academic performance. Within that trimester schedule, they increased their elective offerings, based on the knowledge that students were likely to attend school every day if they had electives that they really enjoyed. They also conducted after-school programs to remediate more students and help them obtain credit or acquire necessary skills that would allow them to progress through their system. Looking toward the future, Mr. Fryer aims to further develop the Lisbon Public School District 19 while preparing students for college and their careers.
