Raphael Thomas Justewicz honored by Cambridge Who's Who for leadership at EDAW/AECOM

NEW YORK, NY, June 9, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Raphael Thomas Justewicz, architect and landscape architect, and writer, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for dedication and excellence in landscape architecture.

Raphael Thomas Justewicz is currently a senior associate with EDAW/AECOM in New York City. In this capacity he provides design overview for this flagship office on the East Coast. He began his career as an architect, with over seven years in the office of Richard Meier in New York City, where he contributed to several influential projects under the guidance of Thomas Phifer, design partner, most notably the Rachofsky House in Dallas, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, and the headquarters for Canal+ in Paris. The latter received a Progressive Architecture Award. He earned a reputation as a master draughtsman during this era of exquisite drawings of ink on mylar, for large axonometrics as well as project documents. With the experience of several competitions his interests broadened to include landscape architecture and he followed this period with matriculation at the Graduate School of Design of Harvard University. As member of the offices of Martha Schwartz and Peter Walker in Cambridge he participated in the design of current projects and also contributed with articles and columns for the design journal Land Forum, under the editorial helm of Jane Gillette and Peter Walker. The opportunity to be part of the beginning of a new firm led to a seven-year practice with Mikyoung Kim in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he helped establish the studio into one of the new young talents and design firms of note for the next generation of artists and landscape architects. Several awards and publications can be viewed at the mikyoung kim design web site, including the national ASLA Honor Awards for the Farrar Residence in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and the ChonGae Restoration in Seoul, Korea. His professional training includes two years in San Francisco most recently with Sasaki Associates, working with Nancy Fleming and Melissa McCann.

Mr. Justewicz was awarded the Master of Landscape Architecture with Distinction from Harvard University in 1997, the Eliot Norton Travelling Fellowship, the highest recognition for academic excellence, and a Certificate of Merit from the American Society of Landscape Architects. During his studies he also participated in the publications of Niall Kirkwood, Professor of Practice at the GSD. His architecture degree is from the School of Architecture at McGill University in Montreal, received in 1988, during which time he was bestowed an AIA Foundation Scholarship and the Murdoch-Laing Prize for Design. His undergraduate degrees are from Marianopolis College in Montreal, Quebec, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
