GRAMBLING, LA, October 19, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mildred G. Gallot, Ed.D., Board Member for University of Louisiana System, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
"Don't sweat the small stuff," recommends, Mildred G. Gallot, an inveterate doctor of education in curriculum and instruction. As board member for the University of Louisiana System, Ms. Gallot must address issues of bigger concern, attending meetings with the Board of Regents to oversee the approval of statewide education programs. Meetings, at which eight universities and over 80,000 students are represented, occur approximately eight times per year and span over two days each. Also, Ms. Gallot serves as chair of Academics & Student Affairs and member of the Personnel & Audit Committee for the University of Louisiana System.
This year marks Ms. Gallot's third year as a member of the Board of Supervisors, a position to which she was appointed in 2005 by Governor Blanco. Previously, she dedicated over four decades to Grambling State University, where she retired as head of the history department. A recognized authority in high school and college curriculum, Ms. Gallot currently serves as president of the North Louisiana Chapter of the American Association of University Women and maintains active membership with the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the National Council for the Social Studies.
Ms. Gallot is also a passionate writer. In 1985, she released her first book, "The History of Grambling State University." An article she wrote on the history of Central State University also led to a book, written by Lathodus Goggins. She does not regard her greatest professional accomplishment to be literary, however. Rather, she notes that she believes her greatest reward has been teaching and inspiring students on an individual basis. Many of these students have emerged at the forefront of their professional communities and returned to thank her for her guidance.
An avid philanthropist, Ms. Gallot contributes to her local church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Red Cloud Indian School, St. Joseph's Indian School, the Diabetes Association and the Arthritis Association. Ms. Gallot attributes her success to her supportive family, with special thanks to her children, Daphne Loretta and Rick, and Richard, her husband of 49 years.
