FALLS CHURCH, VA, November 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anna Utter, Regional Director of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Lactation Consultancy. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.

As a mother, Ms. Utter discovered her interest in lactation consultancy through her breast-feeding experience. For the last 30 years, she has immersed herself in the unique industry of maternal-child health care, and solidified her fluency of the lactation consultation certification examination. Upon passing the exam, members are awarded a credential representing specialized proficiency in lactation and breast-feeding care. Ms. Utter maintained her own consultancy for 10 years and volunteered for various breast-feeding support groups until she joined the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners as a regional director. There, she bears the responsibility of maintaining board regulations, and administering the exam throughout North, Central and South America, as well as in Israel.

Ms. Utter received a Bachelor of Science in medical technology, and has completed additional industry-related coursework. She credits her success to her perseverance and willingness to educate others on breast-feeding health benefits. Her benevolence is exhibited through her voluntary efforts with La Leche League International and her local church. As a dedicated consultant, Ms. Utter keeps herself informed of industry trends through her affiliation with the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, United States Breast-Feeding Committee, American Society of Association Executives, Institute for Credentialing Excellence, Certification Network Group and International Lactation Consultant Association.

In addition to being named a professional of the year, Ms. Utter was selected for inclusion in "Cambridge Publishing's Top 101 Industry Experts" book. Looking toward the future, Ms. Utter aspires to facilitate the development of academic programs in lactation consultancy and contribute to licensure initiatives with her company.
