Carl F. Agsten Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Construction Management and Contracting Services

Carl Agsten has had a lifetime to perfect his reputation for integrity and skills in construction project management

CHARLESTON, WV, August 1, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carl F. Agsten, President of Agsten Construction Company, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in construction management and contracting services.

Essentially born into the business, Mr. Agsten has had an entire lifetime to perfect his skills in construction project management. He draws on no fewer than 51 years of experience as the eponymous proprietor of Agsten Construction Company, a commercial and high-end residential contractor. In charge of day-to-day operations, Mr. Agsten has his hand in sundry aspects of his company, from sales and bidding to advertising and construction, and strives to maintain the company's reputation as one of the most trusted names in West Virginia
.
Mr. Agsten began working as a co-op employee in his family's firm, H.B. Agsten Jr., Inc., during his college years, and further honed his construction skills during a three-year stint as an officer in the Naval Civil Engineer Corps. In 1961, he rejoined his father at the helm of the family business. He also served for six years with the U.S. Navy Reserve and served until 1967 as commanding officer of a Seabees Reserve Construction Division. Mr. Agsten became the president of H.B. Agsten Jr. in 1969 and remained in this position until 1974. From 1970 to 1973, he also formed and acted as president and CEO of Excello Cemento, Inc., a prestressed and precast concrete company in Putnam County, W.Va. In 1975, he founded Carlton, Inc., a general building construction company, serving as its president and sole owner until 1992. During these years, the company performed many varied construction projects and gained a reputation for dependability, integrity and high-quality construction. Wishing to be involved in larger projects, Mr. Agsten sold the Carlton stock to a Cincinnati holding company specializing in construction. He remained president of Carlton until 1997, when BBL of Albany, N.Y., purchased the Carlton name and other assets, and remained with the resulting company, BBLCarlton, until April 2000. He subsequently formed his present company, Agsten Construction Co., Inc. Since its inception, Agsten Construction's projects have included difficult flood repair projects for schools in southern West Virginia, work at both West Virginia State College and Marshall University, and more than $30 M of construction at the Mardi Gras Casino and Resort near Charleston, W.Va. The company is currently completing several projects at the Greenbrier Sporting Club in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., and a number of urgent care facilities for MedExpress in West Virginia and Virginia.

An alumnus of the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Agsten received a Bachelor of Science in architecture in 1958. He is a member of the Contractors Association of West Virginia, Kanawha Valley Builders Association, Associated General Contractors of America, and The Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 2010, he was named as an Executive of the Year in Construction Management and Contracting Services by Cambridge Who's Who.
