MELROSE, MA, February 16, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roberto Julio Santamaria, MPH, Director of Public Health for the City of Everett Health Department, has been named a VIP Member by Cambridge Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Mr. Santamaria's background is in epidemiology and biostatistics and he draws on that vital expertise in his role as the director of public health for the City of Everett, incorporated since 1892. In his principal role at the city's department of health, he stays up-to-date on all diseases and vaccines, ensures that the food, air and water are acceptable for community use and manages the city's health education. Additionally, he oversees all public health emergency planning.

At the age of 24, just one year after starting in the department as a graduate intern, Mr. Santamaria was appointed Massachusetts' youngest public health director. He also wrote the state's first online training module for local health officers regarding tattoos. Mr. Santamaria became involved in his profession while he was planning to becoming a doctor, after realizing that he did not want to help one person at a time; he wanted to effect changes in policy for the population as a whole. He attributes his success to his ambition and the strivings he has made to do well.

Earlier this year, Mr. Santamaria received a double master's degree in epidemiology and biostatistics from Boston University. He is a member of the Massachusetts Health Officers Association, NEHA and American Mensa, Ltd. Looking forward, Mr. Santamaria hopes to move up to a position in the Boston Public Health Commission office.
