Hammond, retired chairperson of the Board of Trustees for Thomas Edison State College has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in literacy programs. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Hammond spent 34 years pursuing excellence in education. An expert on developing and overseeing literacy programs, she has strong decision making, problem solving, grant writing, time management, and leadership skills. While working for the New Jersey State Department of Education, she oversaw their personnel, research,
library management and clerical supervision operations. Thomas Edison State College offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs and professional certificates in more than 100 areas of study.

Hammond completed graduate coursework at The University of Pennsylvania between 1983 and 1987. She received her bachelor's degree in sociology and humanities from Thomas Edison State College in 1978. She is a member of various professional organizations including ProLiteracy Worldwide, People to People International and the National Association of Female Executives. At Thomas Edison State College, she is a member of the Alumni Association, and former member of the Academic Counsel and the Foundation Board. On October 27, 2007 she will be awarded the Spirit of Edison Distinguished Alumni Award by Thomas Edison State College for her significant contributions to the college and community.
