MARION, OH, October 19, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. James Gilsdorf, Marion dentist, knows some patients don't want to wear braces that stand out too much. Metal braces are the traditional treatment option, but many patients are looking for a discreet alternative-Align Technologies' Invisalign . In the past few years, patients have been asking about Invisalign as their treatment option, and many previous Invisalign users are happy with the results.

"Based on the severity of a person's teeth, the type of orthodontic treatment will differ. Treatment options available in our office include Invisalign, clear and traditional braces. We want to give our patients their best smile," said Dr. Gilsdorf, Marion dentist.

Although Invisalign seems like the best option, Dr. Gilsdorf informs patients that severe cases need to be handled differently. Patients who aren't good candidates for Invisalign might consider clear braces as their alternative. The types of clear braces include ceramic and inside (lingual) braces.

Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but ceramic brackets are made of composite materials. Dr. Gilsdorf notes that clear brackets require small ligatures to attach to the wire. For patients looking to completely hide their braces, Dr. Gilsdorf uses tooth-colored wires attached with clear brackets. Thus, the ceramic braces are less noticeable; plus, they move the teeth faster than Invisalign.

If a patient wants to completely hide his or her braces, Dr. Gilsdorf, Marion family dentist, can place inside braces on the back of the teeth-patients' brackets and wire are completely concealed. They are the same as traditional braces but on the back of the teeth. Many patients enjoy lingual braces, but it's important to clean them properly. Since lingual braces rest on the back of the teeth, patients will have to take a little longer to clean them. Also, lingual braces take longer than traditional metal braces, but the results are the same.

"Ceramic and inside braces might not work for every patient. We evaluate our patients' teeth and focus on the best treatment option with the patients' needs in mind. Once the braces come off, no matter the kind, patients are always happy with their corrected smile," said Dr. Gilsdorf.

Invisalign and clear braces treatment may take longer and cost more, but Dr. Gilsdorf and his staff can explain treatment options in further detail during an office visit. At the first consultation, Dr. Gilsdorf will evaluate a patient's mouth, take X-rays and discuss his findings with the patient. He will also take the patient's needs into account before suggesting a plan.
