Ellie Okada, Ph.D., Recognized for Excellence in Social Sciences

Dr. Okada has honored her skills in the social sciences aspects of translational cancer science, responsible innovation and governance, and intellectual property



She has been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.

    SOMERVILLE, MA, June 03, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ellie Okada, Ph.D. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Okada has 30 years' experience as a research professional in the field of social sciences, including innovation and governance, science-based intellectual property, and relations between market and organization. Further, she has conducted studies regarding intellectual assets - an effort which was presented at the OECD International Symposium held in Amsterdam in 1999. After graduating from Kwansei Gakuin University with a Bachelor of Arts in commerce in 1984, she went on to earn an MBA from Kobe University in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Business Administration in 1999.

Over the years, Dr. Okada has honed her skills in the social sciences aspects of translational cancer science, responsible innovation and governance, and intellectual property. She has held several positions, including associate professor at Faculty of Business Administration and the International Graduate School of Social Sciences at Yokohama National University, professor at the International Graduate School of Social Science, as well as Business School, at Yokohama National University, and Academic Associate (Visiting Scholar) at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard. She also regularly joins as a registered member of the health law workshops at Harvard University. She is currently establishing a new social science research field, hopefully creating new jobs in the future, as the president, chief executive officer and senior fellow of the Boston Cancer Policy Institute, where her focus is on the social sciences aspects of translational cancer science.

Dr. Okada served as an expert at the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) policy conference, titled "New Building Blocks for Jobs and Economic Growth," which was held in Washington, D.C. in 2011. She also was invited to join the high-level policy-oriented conference of OECD aimed to review and build on the findings of the OECD two- year program, New Sources of Growth, held in Paris in 2013. She also served as a visiting scholar at the Center of Japanese Economy and Business at Columbia University Business School, Australian National University, and George Washington University. Dr. Okada left her tenured full professor position in Japan in 2012 in order to contribute to advancing translational cancer medicine from social sciences viewpoints at the Boston Cancer Policy Institute.

Dr. Okada arrived in the United States in 2012 as a permanent resident and green card holder. Previously, she was actively involved in the Japanese government. She served as a member of the committee for the new growth policy for the Council of Industrial Structure from 2004 to 2006, as well as the intellectual property policy. She also served on the expert committee for the Council of Science and Technology Policy under the Cabinet Office from 2007 to 2009.

In 2005, Dr. Okada was presented with the Intellectual Property Distinguished Service Award from the Japan Patent Office. She was also honored with book publication awards, a certified public accountant book publication award, a research prize from the Knowledge Management Society of Japan in 2005, and was invited to an invitation-only meeting at the National Academy of Medicine, Washington, D.C. in 2016.

Dr. Okada is a member of the Science-Based Business Initiative of Harvard University, Academy of Management, the Intellectual Property Association of Japan (~2012), the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Licensing Executive Society of USA-Canada (~2016), the program of New Sources of Growth: Knowledge-based capital at the Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (headquartered in Paris), and the Research Consortium Intellectual Asset Management. Additionally, she is a fellow of the Knowledge Management Society of Japan. She has also been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
