Jorge Rey earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University del Valle in Cali, Colombia in 1997. He has held several positions over the duration of his career, including general surgeon with New York Medical College, and vascular surgeon and assistant professor of surgery with Albany Medical College.

Dr. Rey joined the surgery department at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine in 2011 as an assistant professor directly after completing a fellowship in vascular surgery at Albany Medical Center. He became double board certified in general and vascular surgery in 2010.

Dr. Rey was promoted to director of the vascular surgery fellowship training program in 2012 and has received numerous teaching awards during his tenure. He has also been recognized as an outstanding educator by medical students and surgical residents, and featured in Who's Who in America.
