Michael Thompson Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Art Dealership

Michael Thompson was featured in the 36th edition of Who's Who in American Art



Mr. Thompson is the art dealer, bookseller and proprietor at the helm of Boreas Fine Art in Evanston, Ill.

    EVANSTON, IL, July 12, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Thompson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Thompson is the art dealer, bookseller and proprietor at the helm of Boreas Fine Art in Evanston, Ill. Under his operation, Boreas Fine Art has become a trusted resource for both fine press books and artists' books. It has also become a venue for exhibitions of such books. In addition to overseeing all aspects of Boreas Fine Art, Mr. Thompson serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Book Arts in New York. He also recently became the chair of the Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies; he has been a trustee of the organization since 2014. Furthermore, Mr. Thompson is a trustee of the Newberry Library in Chicago, and has been chairman of the finance committee of the Bibliographical Society of America since 2012. His further affiliations include the American Printing History Association and the Visiting Committee at the University of Chicago Libraries. In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Thompson was featured in the 36th edition of Who's Who in American Art.

Prior to pursuing work in fine art, Mr. Thompson established an impressive career in law and economics. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics, and then graduated cum laude with a JD in law from the University of Iowa in 1976. Mr. Thompson rounded out his education by earning a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Iowa. He was admitted to practice by a number of state bar associations, as well as a number of circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of International Trade, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Thompson worked in private practice in Chicago from 2000 to 2012, utilizing years of legal and economic experience with the Iowa Department of Justice, the Iowa Commerce Commission, the New York Public Service Commission, the Missouri Pacific Railroad, Southwestern Bell Corporation, and SBC International Development Corporation. Additionally, Mr. Thompson served as a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School from 2006 to 2012.
