Dr. Kerry Fitzmaurice Recognized for Excellence in Orthoptic Education

Dr. Fitzmaurice's recent research has been published in the International Journal of Medical, Health, Biomedical, Bioengineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering



Dr. Fitzmaurice is an esteemed orthoptist and educator who has taught orthoptics at La Trobe University since 1988.

    PLENTY, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, August 01, 2016, Kerry Fitzmaurice has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Fitzmaurice is an esteemed orthoptist and educator who has taught orthoptics at La Trobe University since 1988. Since that time, she has helped countless students prepare for careers in specialized eye care. She has held a number of leadership positions at the university, including Associate Dean Academic of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Head of its Department of Clinical Vision Sciences. Prior to working in these capacities, Dr. Fitzmaurice honed her skills as a coordinator, researcher and consultant for the Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences' School of Orthoptics. She also taught for the Victorian Education Department for six years.

Passionate about academics, Dr. Fitzmaurice earned a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne in 1998. She previously received a diploma in applied science (orthoptics) from the Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences in 1982, and a higher diploma in secondary teaching from the Secondary Teachers College in Melbourne in 1973. Dr. Fitzmaurice also holds a diploma from the Australian Orthoptic Board, and was a certified secondary teacher through the Victoria Registration Board. She remains active in her professional community and current in her field through affiliations with several organizations, including International Orthoptic Association, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and the International Society Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Fitzmaurice is also a fellow and past president of the Orthoptic Association of Australia, from which she received a Mary Wesson Award in 1992. She has been honored to receive a number of research grants over the course of her career as well. Her research and writings have been published in a number of professional journals; most recently, her work was published in the International Journal of Medical, Health, Biomedical, Biomedical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering and the International Journal of Learning.

In light of her accomplishments, Dr. Fitzmaurice has been featured in the 9th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 4th through 8th editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. She has also appeared in several editions of Who's Who in the World published since 2005.
