Dr. Barbara Norfleet Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Photography

Dr. Norfleet is an accomplished artist and professor emerita of Harvard University



She was also a senior lecturer, photography curator, and director of the school's photography collection.

    CAMBRIDGE, MA, July 22, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Barbara Norfleet has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Norfleet is a photographer whose work has been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among other venues. She has also had her photography featured at numerous other exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. Her work has been represented by art dealer Howard Yezerski. Furthermore, Dr. Norfleet has completed pieces on commission, including "The Landscape of the Cold War" in 2007. Her art has appeared in numerous articles and books on her photographs include "All the Right People," published in 1986, "Manscape with Beasts," published in 1990, "Archives and Archetypes," published in 1997 and "The Illusion of Orderly Progress," published in 1999. Published books of her curatorial work include "The Champion Pig" and "Wedding," published in 1979, "Killing Time," published in 1982, "Looking at Death," published in 1993 and "When We Liked Ike," published in 2001.

Prior to establishing her career in photography, Dr. Norfleet earned a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College, followed by a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Radcliffe College. She was a National Endowment of the Arts fellow, a National Endowment of the Humanities fellow, a Massachusetts Artists fellow in photography, and a Guggenheim fellow. In 1991, she was awarded a grant from the Aaron Siskind Foundation, an honorary degree from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 1897, and an honorary degree from Swarthmore College in 2014. She was an Honoree at the Fifth National Women in Photography Conference in 1997.

Dr. Norfleet has utilized her talent, studies and experience in a number of teaching roles over the years. She is a professor emerita of Harvard University, where she was a senior lecturer, photography curator, and director of the school's photography collection. Dr. Norfleet has also consulted on art for several organizations since 1973. In light of her many art-related accomplishments, Dr. Norfleet was featured in the 23rd through 36th editions of Who's Who in American Art.
