Dorothea de Zafra Atwell Recognized for Longevity & Excellence in Public Service

    SILVER SPRING, MD, September 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dorothea de Zafra Atwell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. For more than 50 years, Ms. de Zafra Atwell has dedicated her life to advocating for the well-being of people in her local and global communities. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts in non-western civilizations, she went on to receive a master's degree in public and international affairs from the University of Pittsburgh. Later in her career, she completed a diploma in information resources management at the National Defense University in the District of Columbia.

Widely regarded for her skills in federal government agency program administration, Ms. de Zafra Atwell holds a unique focus on public health programs and policy, which has led her to serve in analytical, leadership and managerial positions having national impact. Although Ms. de Zafra Atwell is now retired, she continues to volunteer in the areas of education and elder advocacy. She has been a member of the University of Rochester Lifelong Learning Advisory Council since 2011, and previously served as a board member on the Council of Former Federal Executives & Associates from 2013 through 2015. In addition, she has been a long-term-care ombudsman representative and contributed to the Intergenerational Summit on Aging in 2015.

Throughout the course of her celebrated career, Ms. de Zafra Atwell has been continuously recognized for her dedication to public service. In 1995, she was named one of Federal 100 by Federal Computer Week magazine, and in 2006, she was the recipient of the Voluntary Service Award from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, Ms. de Zafra Atwell has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World - she is actually the third generation of de Zafras to qualify for inclusion; both her father and grandfather were featured in Who's Who in American Education in the early 1950s.
