EL PASO, TX, October 19, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles Hawkins, Ph.D. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Now retired, Dr. Hawkins celebrates more than four decades of excellence as a physics professor at secondary and higher education levels. Over the course of his career, he has taught basic topics, including vector diagrams, direct current circuits, and kinetic molecular theory, as well as more difficult and complex areas of study in quantum theory and relativity. Passionate about science and successful because of his love for teaching, Dr. Hawkins spent the first part of his career teaching mathematics and physics at Fort Davis High School in Texas. Thereafter, he joined the team at Monterrey Institute of Technology in Queretaro, Mexico, where he served as a professor of physics at the undergraduate level. Invited to speak at the 2008 Oxford Round Table, Dr. Hawkins was honored by Who's Who in America eight times since 2008 for excellence in education.
Dr. Hawkins served on a research committee at Harvard University from 1968 to 1970 where he worked on the plane of the galaxy @ 5 gigahertz. He then did research at Texas A&M University measuring the ratio of the mass to the parallax of Psi Boötis in 1975. From 1985 to 1990, he participated in a research program with a high school's advanced physics class measuring the quality of air in El Paso. He then had the honor of having five of his students be accepted to Harvard University for their first semester. It made worldwide news and CNN had a news team interview him due to the fact that had never happened before. He was then asked to participate in the Oxford Round Table in England for two consecutive years (2008 and 2009).
Dr. Hawkins earned a Ph.D. from Texas A&M College in 1975 after obtaining a Master of Science in physics from the University of Texas in 1967 and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Texas Western College in 1963. Although retired, Dr. Hawkins continues to work part time as an instructor of physics at his alma mater, the University of Texas, and at El Paso Community College. As he looks to the future, he intends to advise students and periodically take on educational projects as he enjoys retirement.
He is the proud father of 4 children, 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
