The Rev. Robert A. Skeris Honored by Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem

The Rev. Skeris takes great pride in being named a titular canon of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre



    WASHINGTON, DC, December 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Rev. Robert A. Skeris has been included in Marquis Who's Who. For more than 50 years, the Rev. Skeris has served as both a leader of the Roman Catholic Church and an educator of theology. Widely recognized as an authority in the area of hymnology, he has become a renowned speaker on the importance of music in worship. Since the beginning of his career, the Rev. Skeris has held positions at religious institutions across the world, ranging from Germany to the United States. He currently resides in the District of Columbia.

Ordained a Roman Catholic priest in Milwaukee, WI, in 1961, the Rev. Skeris went on to receive a Doctor of Theology from the University of Bonn in 1975. He served as the director of the hymnology section at the International Institute for Hymnological and Ethno-Musicological Studies from 1978 to 1986 before moving to Rome, where he was appointed prefetto della casa, or prefect of the house, at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music. During this time, the Rev. Skeris was named consultor to the Vatican's Office of Pontifical Ceremonies in recognition of his contributions to the Roman Catholic Church and to the theology of worship and of its music. In 1990, he moved to the United States and joined Christendom College as a professor and chairman of the theology department.

Since the turn of the century, the Rev. Skeris has served as the director of the Center for Ward Method Studies in the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America. He takes great pride in also being named a titular canon of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre for his support of Christians in the Holy Land. As a testament to the scope of his success, the Rev. Skeris has been featured in a wide variety of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
