Well-known for his excellence in academia, Dr. Laquatra is uniquely qualified to manage a variety of tasks on behalf of Cornell University, where he has served as professor since 1986. He has also been a consultant in the field of humanities since 1986. His advanced schooling propelled him to begin working for Cornell and, over the years, he has served them as an extension associate, assistant professor, associate professor, and Hazel E. Reed human ecology professor of family policy, professor, and now professor emeritus. Some of his other positions in the field have included serving as scholar-in-residence for the American-Polish Home Builders Institute and as the director of advanced education for the Home Builders Institute.

To remain abreast of changes in his field, Dr. Laquatra has affiliated himself with the Committee for Oversight and Assessment Partnership for Advancing Technological Housing through the National Consortium of Housing Research Centers, as well as the Housing Education and Research Association. Throughout his notable career, he has achieved much; he has conducted research into indoor air quality and energy efficiency, and also designed and built two passive solar dollhouses for his nieces and built energy awareness models for 4-H members. Further, Dr. Laquatra parlayed his knowledge into creative works like, "An Economic Analysis of a Passive Solar Multiple Family Dwelling for Upstate New York," which was published in 1982, and, "Energy Efficient Construction," which was released in 1999. He also lent his skills in the field as an editor for "Indoor Air Quality in Homes: Synthesizing the Issues and Educating Consumers."

Over the years, many organizations in the architectural field have recognized Dr. Laquatra for his amazing work. In 1992, he earned the Blue Ribbon Award from the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, and then, after the turn of the century, he won the Outstanding Engagement Award through the National Association of State Universities & Land Grant Colleges and the Certificate of Recognition through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
