Ann L. Slavick Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Art Education

    HIGHLAND PARK, IL, January 10, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ann Slavick has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Over the course of her career, Ann L. Slavick achieved a number of accomplishments as both an artist and an educator. Her paintings, drawings, and prints have been exhibited throughout the Chicago area, and her work has been featured in a one-woman show and in group shows at the Bernal Gallery. It has also been represented by the Art Rental and Sales Gallery at the Art Institute of Chicago, and seen in private collections in Illinois, New York, California, Arizona, and Ohio.
Ms. Slavick began her career in education in 1972 as a teacher of painting, drawing and crafts at a halfway house in Chicago. She then taught studio art at James B. Conant High School before becoming a teacher of art history and studio arts at New Trier High School. Ms. Slavick taught 20th century art history through the New Trier Adult Education Program as well. She also taught art history at the college level at the College of Lake County for two years, and worked as a researcher and writer for McDougall Littel Publishers' "Art History Notes" for one year.

For two decades, Ms. Slavick taught art and art history for High School District 113 in Highland Park and Deerfield, Ill. She served as faculty chair for visual arts for Highland Park High School's Focus on the Arts program from 1981 to 1985. She was then faculty coordinator of the program from 1987 until 2005, five years past her retirement in 2000.

Aside from her work in the classroom, Ms. Slavick is noted for authoring the book, "Twenty-five 60-Minute Self-Guided Tours of Chicago's Great Architecture and Art." She is a past panelist for the Evanston Arts Council and Illinois Arts Council Arts Tour. Ms. Slavic also served as a reader for advanced placement art history exams, as well as a board member of Theatre MIR.

Ms. Slavick's educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Art Institute of Chicago, earned in 1973. In 1991, she received a Master of Arts in art history, theory, and criticism from the same school. Ms. Slavick directed an art gallery for the South Shore Commission for four years in Chicago before pursuing teaching roles. Her professional affiliations include the Illinois Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association.

Ms. Slavick was honored to receive an award for Outstanding Service in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1992. She also received a Mayor's Award in 1995 for contribution to the arts in Highland Park. Her achievements have been featured in the 51st through 69th editions of Who's Who in America, the 5th through 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, the 26th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest, and the 20th through 28th editions of Who's Who of American Women. She has appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in the World as well.
