Joan Jernstrom Honored for Excellence in Education & Military Service

Joan Jernstrom spent her career serving her country and teaching middle school



    WEEKI WACHEE, FL, January 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joan Jernstrom has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Prior to retiring in 2003, Ms. Jernstrom spent much of her career as a secondary school educator at Raymond B. Stewart Middle School in Zephyrhills, Fla. She is also a military veteran who has served in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. As a member of the U.S. Air force from 1952 to 1957, Ms. Jernstrom served in the Korean War. She later enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1978 after graduating from the University of South Florida in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in business economics. She obtained a Master of Education from Saint Leo College in 1982 and continued to serve in the Navy until 1987.

Called back to the military life later in her career, Ms. Jernstrom became an active member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1999. She was a staff officer of U.S. Coast Guard Division 15 from 1999 to 2003, and an assistant director, staff officer and program visitor for U.S. Coast Guard District 7 from 2001 to 2005. Ms. Jernstrom became certified in emergency response in 2003, and from 2003 to 2005, she was a branch chief and visiting program developer for the U.S. Coast Guard.

Aside from her work in the military and in education, Ms. Jernstrom has also worked as an electronics technician for Honeywell in St. Petersburg, Fla. and as a farmer in Zephyrhills, Fla. She is a past adjutant and past judge advocate for Post 118 for The American Legion, a past treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a charter member of National Women in the Military. Her further professional affiliations include the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education, the Florida Association of Computer User Groups, and the Air Force Association. She is an honorary member of the National FFA Organization.

Ms. Jernstrom's accomplishments have been featured in the 4th through 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the World, and multiple editions of Who's Who in America.
