Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Hernandez is a biomedical engineer and educator who has excelled in the field of higher education since establishing his career in 2012. Regarded as an emerging leader in his field, he was the recipient of a distinguished leadership award from his alma mater, the University of Michigan and inducted into Epeians, the Engineering Leadership Honor Society. During his time at the University of Michigan, he published tremendous research in the evaluation of mechanisms underlying self-reported stooping, crouching and kneeling functions and exploration of speed-accuracy tradeoffs in the control of whole body movements. Dr. Hernandez was awarded a research fellowship from the National Institute of Health to carry out his work and received an honorable mention in the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program.

With these impressive distinctions in tow, he joined the team at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2014 as an assistant professor in the department of kinesiology and community health, where he has been making an impact on students looking to excel in the fields of applied health sciences, biomedical engineering, and medicine. His current work aims to further our understanding of the behavioral and neural mechanisms that underlie balance difficulties in older adults with neurological disorders. Previously, Dr. Hernandez was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, San Diego. During this time, he achieved impactful research in the neural dynamics and underlying motor adaptation of virtual grasping movements in Parkinson's disease.

To prepare for his career, Dr. Hernandez earned a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University in 2003, a Master of Science from the University of Michigan in 2005, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2012. To remain at the top of his field, Dr. Hernandez is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, IEEE, the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, the Society for Neuroscience, the American Society of Biomechanics and the Gerontological Society of America. As he looks ahead to the future, Dr. Hernandez intends to continue in his work at the University of Illinois while performing continued research in the field of biomedical engineering.
