Dr. Michele Elia Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Mathematics Education

Dr. Elia is a retired mathematics educator who spent the majority of his academic and professional career with the Polytechnic University of Turin.

    TURIN, ITALY, January 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michele Elia has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Elia is a retired mathematics educator who spent the majority of his academic and professional career with the Polytechnic University of Turin. Born in Berzano di San Pietro, Italy, he obtained a Doctor in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 1970 and spent a year as a researcher for FIAT in Turin, Italy. He then returned to his alma mater, again working in a research role. In 1977, he began teaching at the school as an associate professor of mathematics. Dr. Elia became a full professor in 1990 and taught information theory and coding for 25 years until his retirement in 2015. His primary areas of expertise include algebraic decoding, computational complexity, algorithms, and cryptography.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Elia remained active in the academic community through affiliations with the New York Academy of Sciences, the Mathematical Association of America, the American Mathematical Society, the Italian Mathematical Union, and the Fibonacci Association. He was a senior member of IEEE as well. Furthermore, Dr. Elia utilized his expertise to co-author "The Information Theory Approach to Communications," published in 1977, and contribute a number of articles to professional journals. He also served as associate editor of mathematics journals, and in 1999, he held a position as vice mayor.

Dr. Elia's accomplishments were taken into consideration when he was chosen to be featured in the 62nd through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, and the 8th through 25th editions of Who's Who in the World. He has also appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
