NEW YORK, NY, February 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rob Mango has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Rob Mango is a working artist in TriBeCa, the proprietor of the Rob Mango Studio in New York City and the author of the self-published memoir, 100 Paintings An Artist's Life in New York City. For more than 40 years, he has been an internationally exhibited painter and sculptor. Mango's work has been extensively collected in both the private and corporate spheres. He has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Taos, Zurich, Prague, Paris, St.Paul-de-Vence and Tuscany. Mango and his artwork have been featured in such publications as The New York Times, Huffington Post, Art in America, Art News and dART International.

The artist's website, robmango.com is interactive. It features new paintings, sculptures and drawings, older works, order access to published books, exhibition catalogs, and a trailer to a comprehensive film documentary being released Spring 2017 entitled "Amiss in the Abyss" by French filmmaker Guillaume LeBlanc. Mango's museum and gallery one-man exhibitions in 2017-18 will include the Barrett Art Museum at Utica College, MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, Iowa, and Zurich Gallery in Switzerland.

A native of Chicago, Mango received a BFA for painting from the University of Illinois and a MFA for sculpture. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of New Mexico for painting. In 1975, Mango presented his works of art at the One Man Painting Exhibition in the Krannert Art Museum in Champaign, Illinois.

Mango has mastered several art mediums and styles. His virtuoso metaphorical oils of Europe and New York City are well known. His own invention, three dimensional figurative mixed media paintings are unique and were exhibited in New York (2005-2016). The layering of colors and materials projects three-dimensionally while still confined within a frame. Mango's recent works concentrates on the female and male figure, combining Picasso-like cubism with European expressionism. His most recent series known as AURA I-XV concentrate on the spirit that inhabits the human form, giving visibly to the human spirit, in a way which has never been achieved before. An upcoming 2017 exhibition of 16 black and white oil works on paper will feature two famous ballet stars Sergeiy and Oleksandr Kirichenko of Zurich. Mango painted them in performance emphasizing motion and likeness. The series portrays their Tango choreography.

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Mango spent much of his undergraduate career as a track star. In 1972, Mango broke the World Record for the 2-mile relay, was a finalist in the Olympic Trials and received the Medal of Honor for winning the 880 in the Big 10 Championships while attending the University of Illinois; he was the 1973 NCAA Champion as well. Mango often paralleled his track career with his artwork by visually creating his next masterpiece in his mind while running.

Mango began his professional art career as a sculptor and later evolved into a painter. His art influences include Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg, Edward Kienholz, Vincent van Gogh, Frank Stella and Edouard Manet. Mango combines materials to create mixed media works. The layering of colors and materials projects three-dimensionally while still confined within a frame. Mango's work concentrates on the female and human body, combining Picasso-like cubism with European expressionism. His recent works of art depict New York City in both a real and surreal way; he often incorporates symbolic and iconic aspects of major cities and cultures.

Mango has lived in New York City's TriBeCa since 1977. He was one of the first pioneers in the downtown neighborhood, known as Washington Market before being dubbed the "Triangle Below Canal." Mango resides in and continues to create works of art in his Duane Street gallery, where he and his wife Helen also raised their two children, Joseph and Magdalena.

As a testament to Mr. Mango's achievements, he was featured in the 23rd through 36th editions of Who's Who in American Art, as well as in Scott MacMillan's book, "Is It Art?" A full list of exhibitions, bibliography and recent clients is available upon request.

About 100 Paintings An Artist's Life in New York City

As noted in the foreword by art critic Robert Mahoney, "Mango's paintings can be seen as being produced by a man whose body was fed oxygen to a fantastical high while running through the city."

With more than 200 full-color artworks and photographs, this book documents Mango's journey and the body of work he has created over the past four-plus decades. From the birth of Tribeca to the horrors of 9/11 and its aftermath, Mango reveals the details as only such a singular artist can. Along the way, he rubs shoulders with Wall Street titans, the art world's up-and-comers, punk rockers, and such celebrated downtowners as Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Andy Warhol, Larry Rivers and Bob Dylan. A central hub of Tribeca was the Neo Persona Gallery, which Mango founded in 1984 to represent and exhibit the work of the neighborhood's burgeoning art scene.
