Oceanographer and Former Professor Dr. David Ross Young Featured in Who's Who in America

Dr. Young has contributed articles to numerous scientific journals



    SOUTH BEACH, OR, April 06, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. David Ross Young has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Young is an environmental scientist and oceanographer with more than 50 years of experience in teaching and scientific research. After earning a B.A. in physics from Pomona College in 1960, he received a Ph.D. in chemical and biological oceanography from the Scripps Institution Oceanography in San Diego, Calif., 10 years later. Having also served as a research assistant at the Scripps Institution, he then directed the chemistry program at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project and subsequently served as an oceanographer with Dames & Moore Environmental Consultants.

After a short stint on the faculty of the oceanography department at the State University of New York, Stony Brook University, Dr. Young returned to the West Coast as an adjunct professor in the department of oceanography at the Oregon State University College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. Concurrently, he served as an environmental research scientist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and participated in projects of national significance. From 2002 to 2012, he lectured in the physical sciences department at Oregon Coast Community College while continuing his oceanographic research until his retirement in 2015.

Throughout his career, Dr. Young received 10 Scientific Achievement Awards from the EPA in recognition of his service and research accomplishments over the years. He has also been featured in six editions of Who's Who in America. Though retired, he continues performing guest work for the EPA and maintains membership with the Coastal & Estuarine Research Federation, Pacific Estuarine Research Society, and the Wetlands Conservancy.
