Dr. James Selkirk Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Biochemistry

    CHAPEL HILL, NC, April 06, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. James Selkirk has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. An expert in biochemistry and environmental sciences, Dr. Selkirk is highly regarded for more than 30 years of research and work with laboratories across the country. In his career, he has held various roles with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, including chief of the carcinogenesis and toxicology evaluation branch of the toxicology program, associate director of the division of toxicology research and testing, chief of the carcinogen mechanism group, and special assistant to the scientific director of the technology development. Additionally, he worked with the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health as a senior staff fellow and member of its numerous committees. Dr. Selkirk's prominence in his field also derives from his roles as deputy director of the National Center of Toxicogenomics, adjunct professor for Oak Ridge Biomedical Graduate School at the University of Tennessee, and senior staff scientist and unit leader for the biology division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. To share his expertise, Dr. Selkirk authored research articles and chapters for books, while also serving as a member of the editorial board for the Carcinogenesis Journal and Environmental Health Perspectives.

Before establishing his career, Dr. Selkirk earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry at Syracuse University in 1964 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Syracuse University Upstate Medical Center in 1969. He remains at the top of his field by affiliating with the American Cancer Society, for which he served on two occasions on its carcinogenesis study committee. In recognition of professional excellence, Dr. Selkirk was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
