With diverse interests ranging from religion to symphonies, Dr. Edwards has become a standout in multiple fields - primarily retail, wholesale distribution and real estate - over the course of 40 years. After graduating with an Associate of Arts, Cum Laude, from Tyler Junior College in 1974 and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University in 1976, he was hired as a corporate coordinator by Dillard's Inc. He became the executive vice president of W.C. Supply soon after and remained with the company for six years. Over the next few decades, Dr. Edwards continued to hold a plethora of managerial positions showcasing his prowess as a businessman and leader. He was the president and owner of Edwards & Associates, Inc., vice president of W.C. Square, Inc., and vice president of CountryMedic, Inc. In addition to being a commercial real estate investor for properties in Louisiana and Texas, he was on the executive committee of the E. T. State Fair, and is the President of the board of directors of Camp Fannin Association. Today, Dr. Edwards is the chief executive officer and chairman of the board directors of The Pruitt Co. Inc., the chief executive officer and chairman of the Board of Odessa Spring Brake & Axle, Inc., a general partner with ESE Properties, and the president and owner of Shreveport Spring, Brake & Axle, Inc., positions he's held since 1988, 1991 and 1998, respectively.
This year holds special significance for Dr. Edwards as he achieved a Ph.D. in humanities from East Texas Baptist University, was elected to the board of directors of the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation, and has been named Chair of the Development Board of the University of Texas at Tyler. Also, he has served as a trustee and past board chair of East Texas Baptist University since 1995. He was named president of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra Foundation, serves on the Literacy Council of Tyler board and was named board president for this year. He's been a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Rotary Club Tyler, Rotary International, and the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Additionally, he was on the planning committee of the Tyler Heritage on Tour and the board of directors of the Carnegie History Center. Finally, he was a trustee of the Timberline Baptist Camp and Conference Center.
In light of a lifetime of achievements, Dr. Edwards has been featured in the 24th through 37th editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, the 4th edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, the 20th through 26th editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, the 53rd through 56th and 58th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, and the 8th through 11th, as well as the 14th, 15th, and the 19th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World. Dr. Edwards also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Baylor University Alumni Association in 2009.
