Dr. Christine Anne Biron Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Almost 40 Years of Experience in Medical Science Education

    PROVIDENCE, RI, April 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Christine Anne Biron has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With almost four decades of research experience, Dr. Biron has dedicated her career to advancing medical science. Her research focuses on innate immunity to viruses, particularly at the level of natural killer cells, cytokines, and signal transducers and activators of transcription, and has resulted in a strong reputation for excellence. With such an extensive background and passion for the field, Dr. Biron thought that passing on her knowledge to the younger generations was only natural. Since the 1980s, she has held a variety of academic roles with the University of North Carolina, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Trinity College Dublin, and the Karolinska Institute. She currently serves Brown University as an Esther Elizabeth Britzenhoff Professor of Medical Science, a position she acquired in 1996. In her three decades there, Dr. Biron also garnered experience as an assistant professor of medical services, associate professor, chair of the department of molecular microbiology and immunology, director of a graduate program, and professor. She is credited with training more than 20 pre- and post-doctoral students, and served as an external reviewer for immunology programs around the world.

An alumna of both the University of Massachusetts and the University of North Carolina, Dr. Biron holds a Bachelor of Science and a Ph.D. Her professional affiliations include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Immunologists, the American Society of Virology, the American Society of Microbiology, the International Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research, and the Society for Leukocyte Biology. She is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Academy of Microbiology. Notably, she has served as the associate editor for the Journal of Immunology, editor for the Journal of Natural Immunity, and member of the board of editors for mBio as well as an advisory editor for the Journal of Experimental Medicine. Throughout her career, Dr. Biron has been recognized many times for professional accomplishments, including through features in 19 editions of Who's Who in America, 12 editions of Who's Who of American Women, four editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and one edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
