Kenneth S. White Celebrated by Marquis Who's Who

Lynchburg-based attorney leaves professional, business and civic legacy



    LYNCHBURG, VA, April 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kenneth Spencer White has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. White was born in Lynchburg on October 31, 1939, to the late Kenneth L. and Bertha Spencer White. He married Jane Stafford Baber on June 23, 1962. They have three children: Virginia (Gena) White O'Keefe, Kenneth Spencer White, Jr., and Charles Baber White; and four grandchildren: Molly Hunter O'Keefe, Samuel Spencer O'Keefe, George Baber White; and Lucy Harrison White.

An alumnus of the University of Virginia, (BS-1962, JD 1965), Mr. White devoted more than 35 years of his career to the practice of law as a partner with Edmunds & Williams, PC, retiring at the end of 1999. He was one of the organizers and founding Chairman of the Board of Bank of the James and Bank of the James Financial Group, Inc. from 1999 until his retirement in 2009. He then was named Chairman of the Board of Centra Health, Inc. and held that position until his retirement at the end of 2014.

He held gubenatorial-appointed positions under nine Governors of Virginia from 1977 through 2010, including service as President of the Virginia Board of Education, Chairman of the Virginia Public School Authority, member of the Governor's Commission on Excellence in Education, and member of the Commonwealth Transportation Board.

Mr. White also served as President of the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust and the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. His other board relationships include Sweet Briar College, Region 2000, The Boy's Home, Covington, Va., and the Lynchburg Public Schools Education Foundation.
He is a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg, where he has served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden.

Throughout his lengthy career, he has been recognized by inclusion in eight editions of Who's Who in America, six editions of Who's Who in American Law, and the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
