He brings more than five decades of legal experience to the firm, where he co-manages the Real Estate Markets Group. His practice primarily encompasses all aspects of real estate securities and syndication transactions. He also handles cases relating to private investment funds, financial services, tax, lodging and gaming, and private equity real estate.
In addition to representing clients with their varied legal needs, Mr. Fass has written and lectured extensively in the area of real estate law. He has served as an adjunct assistant professor of real estate at New York University, and lectured for the Practicing Law Institute and the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, as well as for other organizations. Mr. Fass pursued his career as a lawyer after graduating with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in economics. In 1961, he graduated cum laude with a JD from Harvard University. Mr. Fass then earned an LL.M. from New York University in 1964. He passed the bar in the state of New York and began his career with Carro, Spanbock, Fass, Geller, Kaster & Cuiffo in New York City, where he advanced from associate to partner in his time with the firm. In 1988, he became partner of the New York City-based law firm Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hayes & Handler, where he remained until 1995. Mr. Fass was then a partner of Battle Fowler LLP in New York City before joining Proskauer Rose in 2000.
An active member of the legal community, Mr. Fass's professional affiliations include the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Institute of CPAs, the New York State Society of CPAs, Pi Lambda Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Beta Alpha Psi. His efforts and enthusiasm for his profession have led to Mr. Fass being named a Leading Lawyer in the field of Real Estate Investment Trusts by the Legal 500. He has also been identified as a "Senior Statesman" in Capital Markets REITs and Real Estate Finance by Chambers USA. In 1964, he received the Haskins Award for outstanding achievement in the New York State CPA exam.
Mr. Fass' accomplishments have been highlighted in the 44th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, the 28th through 43rd editions of Who's Who in the East, and the 23rd through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
