Although Mr. Wayland-Smith retired from his career as a banking executive in 1998, he still enjoys an active role in the community. He enjoys utilizing his background to make a difference, and thus has been a member of the board of directors at the Rochester Institute of Technology since 2003. Mr. Wayland-Smith has also been the chair of the college council at Geneseo, The State University of New York, since 1999, and is involved with a variety of nonprofits. Additionally, he maintains affiliation with organizations such as the Greater Rochester Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and the Genesee Valley Club.
Mr. Wayland-Smith began his career after earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Rochester in 1965. He then obtained a role as the manager of equipment services at Strong Memorial Hospital. Two years later, he joined Rochester Trust Company as a management trainee, and the rest was history. Mr. Wayland-Smith remained with the company through its acquisition by Chase Manhattan Bank in 1982 until retirement. His positions with the company demonstrated impressive growth including manager of trust and financial services, and president and chief executive officer of the Rochester Region. At retirement he was the senior upstate New York trust and investment division executive.
Mr. Wayland-Smith's hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. He was included in 20 editions of Who's Who in America published between 1994 and 2016, as well as 10 volumes each of Who's Who in Finance and Business and Who's Who in the World, and one in Who's Who in the East.
